Chris Foresman over at Ars Technica has the story:

"A report by the Financial Times (registration required) cites unnamed executives who say that Apple is in talks with record labels to offer access to the entire iTunes music library for a lump sum price."

This is a prediction that Apple will announce an unlimited bundled iTunes option, using a lump sum payment (i.e. not a subscription), whether that sum is included in the price for a given device, or whether the sum is paid for separately outside of the device purchase (either scenario will serve as grounds for a favorable judement of this prediction). We are setting an expiry date of of January 9, 2009, which is the last day of MacWorld.

UPDATE: Saul Hansell of the NYT says that there is definitely some truth to this rumor. . .
