Steve Jobs announced today that the next-generation 3G iPhone will be available in 20 countries on July 11. The phone has a number of new features which should tempt customers.
Along with better battery life and a slightly thinner case, the phone will have the latest version of the iPhone operating system, called iPhone 2.0, will come in white and black, and will include full GPS support.
The affordability of the phone was called a "challenge" by Jobs, and Apple has aggressively addressed this as well. The new phone will be priced at $199 and $299 for the 8GB and 16GB versions, significantly cheaper than the earlier model.

Any ideas what the unsubsidized price will be?
what do current iPhone owners have to do to upgrade?
I guess it doesn't matter what the unsubsidized price is since I can buy it at an Apple store for $199 and then unlock it for use on T Mobile.
It's interesting that ATT is not doing the revenue sharing deal - I guess both companies are on their own. Apple won't be making as much per unit but I imagine they are going to shatter that 10M sales goal. With no rev share deal, they also shouldn't care if some people unlock them. I think ATT shot themselves in the foot by raising the prices for the data plans - it's just providing more incentives for people to unlock the phone. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple and ATT end their exclusive arrangement within a year or so.
Chris, if you are an ATT customer, you can purchase the phone for $199 if you agree to a two-year contract term.
