Twitter erupts as markets fall

As the stock market plummeted today, Twitter community chatter was dominated by news and comments about the failed bailout. As the markets closed in New York, all of the top ten trends on Twitter's search engine were directly related to the market and bailout -- the top three keywords being ‘dow’, ‘congress’, and ‘#bailout.’

While pessimism about the economy reigns supreme, many tweets expressed an especially bleak outlook. ColumbiaJames' comment seems to sum up much of the despair.

columbiajames: is watching the Dow fail and is wondering how long until bread lines come back in fashion.

More news, commentary, and predictions from The Industry Standard:

Prediction: Dow Jones index dips below 10,000 by 2009?

Analysis: AAPL drops big on analyst downgrade -- time to buy?

Picture This: Kuil, ciul, or just "cuil sucks"?
